We believe that in order to provide the highest quality tree care to our clients, we need to offer a proactive approach to tree management. The Smart Tree Plan is a customized program designed to promote the health and longevity of your landscape. This service package was created to fill a gap in our industry where residential customers are frequently left out. Clients who sign up are given a unique and personalized report for their entire property, including up to 20 trees. We believe in preserving the overall well being of our collective urban forest, and offer a discount to communities interested in participating.
Our pruning services are what we are most proud of. We train our staff to be the best at all applications, whether it is your prized Japanese maple, or a native oak that shelters your home. We prune to emphasize a tree’s natural shape with health, safety and artistic considerations in mind. When pruning is done correctly it greatly reduces your tree’s chances of failure, lowers its susceptibility to insect and disease, and brings out lasting beauty that improves the value of your landscape. If the tree has structural problems, we can cable it to increase its safety. ANSI A300 Standards guide our practice and can be found here.
Whether your stump is the result of one of our tree removals or not, we provide removal services that gets your yard looking beautiful and natural again. We not only grind the stump itself, but also any protruding roots. As with our other services, we provide a complete clean-up of the work area. If you would like to replace the tree, we also offer recommendations for appropriate species, and can plant it too. Remember: Call 811 before you dig, or go here to fill out a Homeowner Web Ticket Entry.
The base of every tree should have a healthy flare. If your tree base looks like a telephone pole, chances are there is something amiss. A few different issues can only be detected via root crown excavation. We use compressed air to remove the surface soil in order to inspect the base for things like rot, fungus, or a pesky girdling root. If the problem is simply that the tree has been buried too far under soil and mulch, we can create a safe diameter for the trunk to recover. To learn more about AirSpade, watch here.
Tree health starts with root health. Healthy trees are naturally more resistant to most insects and diseases. Soils vary widely from yard to yard. What works in one yard might not work in another. Our on-site evaluations will assess all of the factors impacting the health of your trees and make the recommendations that are most appropriate for each specie. Our products are environmentally friendly and adhere to the California Department of Pesticide Regulations. See their factsheet here.
Incorporating green life into our environment affords us many benefits. Urban living often requires maximizing tight spaces, therefore requiring creative design and use of smaller plant options. For example, espalier tree pruning techniques can allow for fruit production against a retaining wall. These specialty trees require expert level care and maintenance, and we have the knowledge base to help them thrive. The USDA has a great research summary for communicating the health benefits of urban trees and green space, and can be found here.
Nature can certainly be unpredictable, and emergencies are bound to happen. From the first minute of the call, our team of specialists works alongside our clients so that they don’t have to weather the storms alone. We utilize the safest practices and rigging techniques to keep our staff, clients, and their property as safe as possible. Existing clients are our first priority, but we welcome all emergent calls. In the event we are booked, we can provide you with a list of reputable companies to contact.

We pride ourselves on working within budget constraints to assist our clients in maximizing the beauty of their landscape, and therefore, their investment. We offer customized one, three, and five year maintenance plans.
‘Creating defensible space is essential to improve your home’s chance of surviving a wildfire. It’s the buffer you create between a building on your property and the grass, trees, shrubs, or any wildland area that surround it. This space is needed to slow or stop the spread of wildfire and it protects your home from catching fire—either from direct flame contact or radiant heat. Defensible space is also important for the protection of the firefighters defending your home. Defensible Space Zones: Two zones make up the required 100 feet of defensible space.’ Learn more… Reference the Cal Fire website here.
While tree preservation is always our goal, sometimes removal of an entire tree is the only option. Especially in urban areas, tree removal can be very technical and require a high level of skill, expertise and the right equipment. Often that tree may be far beyond the capabilities of your average tree company. We use advanced rigging techniques in order to prevent property damage, improve safety, and enhance crew efficiency. We also offer crane assisted, zero impact removals for large trees over landscapes that can’t risk damage.
How a tree is planted can make all the difference over its lifetime. We work with local nurseries to source the highest quality plants for your landscape. “A healthy community forest begins with careful planning. With a little research and a simple layout, you can produce a landscape that will cool your home in summer and tame the winter winds. Your well-planned yard will contain trees that grow well in the soil and moisture of your neighborhood. Your trees will be properly placed to avoid collisions with power lines and buildings, and the aesthetics will increase your property value.” Great resources on planting can be found here. Tree injection is a method of directly applying fertilizers and pesticides into the vascular system of a tree with the goal of protection from invasive species, or to correct nutritional deficiencies. We use the cellular transport found naturally in the tree to send these chemical corrections to targeted areas. It works particularly well in large trees found within urban areas where ground/air spray applications are impractical or hazardous. One major benefit of this application is that it’s highly effective for controlling insidious pathogens, such as Ophiostoma fungi, that cause Dutch Elm Disease (DED). This parasite is responsible for the devastating canopy loss seen in American Elm trees across the US.
Our experienced staff can accurately assess your trees for a wide range of pests and infectious pathogens. ‘Insects and diseases can threaten tree health. As soon as you notice any abnormality in your tree’s appearance, you should begin a careful examination of the problem. By identifying the specific symptoms of damage and understanding their causes, you may be able to diagnose the problem and select an appropriate treatment.’ A great resource from the International Society of Arboriculture can be found here.
A tree inventory is a detailed list of data for a specific area or grouping of trees. Each tree is digitally tagged with a species label, gps pin, and several condition details. When viewed comprehensively, this report can provide a broad picture regarding the health and diversity of your urban forest. This information is also helpful when clustering work according to season, or with an annual budget in mind.
We understand that managing tree care can present many challenges. Our signature solution, the Smart Tree Plan, offers a new twist on the tree inventory report process, designed especially for our residential clients.
‘Trees are an important part of our world. They provide significant benefits to our homes and cities, but when trees fall and injure people or damage property, they are liabilities. Understanding and addressing the risks associated with trees makes your property safer and prolongs the life of the tree.’ Our Certified Arborist is also Tree Risk Assessment Qualified. Note this info page on how to recognize tree risk from TreesAreGood.org.
Arborist Consultations allow for a more thorough discussion and analysis of your property than our standard free estimate. Each tree is comprehensively examined for structural defects, including those caused by insect or disease problems. Once the inspection is completed we will recommend a treatment plan based on the specific needs of your trees and overall property. Consultations are useful for many reasons, especially when inquiring about long term maintenance. We can also generate a report for you if one is requested. Tree cost appraisals are also available.
